The Madison Review annually hosts the Phyllis Smart-Young Prize in Poetry and the Chris O’Malley Prize in Fiction. The finest unpublished short story and finest group of three unpublished poems will be awarded $1,000 with publication in an issue of The Madison Review. Writers may submit one entry per genre (one short story and/or group of three poems).
Congrats to our most recent Chris O'Malley Prize winner, Hillary Behrman, with her short story "Muskeg" and our most recent Phyllis Smart-Young winner, Cindy Juyoung OK, with her poems "Inventory," "Orientation," and "The Carried." Be sure to check them out in our Spring 2020 issue!
Submissions for these prizes open on November 1st, 2021 and close on January 15th, 2021
Please note: we accept online submissions only. Mailed submissions will not be considered.
We will also not respond to emails inquiring about whether
we have viewed your submission. It takes us several
months to get to pieces because of our backlog, but
